Senior Software Engineer - Customer Explore Design Lab

WHO WE ARE

We are the Design Lab team! Working together to create appealing and engaging ways for customers to explore the IKEA range in new ways. We recently shipped the 3D home furnishing experience **IKEA Kreativ** to the US market in collaboration with the amazing people at Geomagical Labs. However, now we are looking for other challenges and have identified new opportunities for the team to tackle. We are setting out on a journey to make our new product into an excellent experience, and to accomplish this we need to grow the team with one more Senior Software Engineer.

ABOUT OUR TEAM

We are a high-performing cross-functional product team on a mission to help IKEA customers find their way to the right home furnishing solutions, no matter if they are a student furnishing their first apartment or if they are looking for the perfect living room arrangement with a sofa that fits perfectly. (Don’t forget the cushions!) Our team is curious, outcome- and data-driven with a passion for co-creating awesome experiences across disciplines using best practice product discovery methodologies.

The team is based in the Hubhult office in Malmö but we have team members in at least 4 different countries across Europe so remote work is possible. We work in a fast-paced environment with OKR:s as an autonomous and empowered product team. There are always a lot of interesting challenges, tests to run, hypotheses to validate and customers to meet. Work across disciplines is highly encouraged and is a key part of our ways of working.

It’s still early days for this product but our team’s expertise lies in Javascript, TypeScript, React, Static Site Generators (Next.js / Gatsby). We aim to create serverless solutions with static pages as much as we can, but we also plan to use Edge Computing to create the dynamic parts of our solution. We also like to work with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) where it makes sense.

WHO YOU ARE

At IKEA, you’re welcome no matter where you come from, what you believe, and what you look like. We don’t even care how you have furnished your home. We’re interested in you simply because you’re you. Our different views, backgrounds, and personalities make us better understand our customers, give us more fun at work and spark more and better ideas. Perhaps your unique take on something could lead to a great idea that creates a better everyday life for the many people

We expect you to match a few of these (or be willing to learn):

- Strong JavaScript skills, TypeScript knowledge is a bonus
- Strong CSS skills, you know your way around flexbox and CSS Grid.
- Experience with client-side frameworks such as React
- Experience working with modern state management, e.g. Redux, MobX etc.
- Familiarity and experience with DevOps ways of working
- Experience with Static Site Generators, e.g. Gatsby, Next.js etc.
- Experience with creating high traffic, high availability web solutions for a global audience.

If any of these describe you, that would be an extra bonus:

- An eye for design, and familiarity with UX work
- Curious to learn and a passion for finding and solving customer problems
- Experience with running and maintaining Node.js services in production at scale
- Experience with at least one cloud provider, e.g. AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code, e.g. Terraform

QUESTIONS AND SUPPORT? LET'S CONNECT!

Studies show that members of underrepresented communities don’t apply for jobs unless they’re 100% “qualified”. If this is part of the reason you hesitate to apply, we like you to reconsider and give it a chance. Maybe your profile fits our needs much better than you think. We look forward to receiving your application.

From: “Why Women Don’t Apply for Jobs Unless They’re 100% Qualified” by Tara Sophia Mohr, August 2014”

Thank you for reading all of that, and if you are as excited about this as we are, send us an application and we will hopefully speak soon. For any questions, you are welcome to reach out to our recruiter Batool Malik at Batool.malik@ingka.com

Please note that we will be interviewing continuously. We look forward to hearing from you!
